One Patient

One Patient

One Patient: where institutional corruption dictates how health care is allocated – leaving many with care likened to that of a third world country…if any.

20130417144921-onepatient3

A film by Libby Spears

A small team, without federal, state or county assistance has embarked upon a personal mission…to provide access to healthcare, regardless of ability to pay, without discrimination.

We hope that this film will provide a greater insight into the governmental and institutional corruption that dictates how healthcare is allocated – leaving many with care likened to that of a third world country…if any. This film seeks to call into question the inconsistencies in healthcare as it relates to those most at risk, the poor and un/underinsured.

Today in America, the face of poverty has changed. No longer is it the homeless man under the L or the toothless woman on the corner who pleads with her eyes…and her cup. As America grapples with devastating economic times, the harsh reality is that the face of poverty is now sitting to your left, to your right, and possibly even in your very own home. Illness and injury know no socioeconomic status and no one is immune – the rich, the poor, the middle-class. Let us introduce a world where lives are changed despite the decline of governmental programs. Together we hope to challenge the stereotypical beliefs about those in need, and find sustainable ways to address healthcare in a failing economy.

While you had the opportunity to meet Mike Williams in the trailer, you will meet many more patients from vastly different backgrounds who share one common theme, all of them were denied access to or let down by our health care system and they were so close to simply giving up. You will walk along side us as you meet each patient – documenting who they are, where they come from and why the quest to maintain health and wellness has been a struggle.  You will witness their commitment, their raw emotion, their accountability, their challenges and their successes.

What do you do when you are forced to choose between rent and food, between bus fare and medicine? How do you secure a future for yourself and your family when the pain you feel renders you completely disabled…or addicted? It is widely understood that in the United States of America, despite the promise of Obama Care, healthcare is not and will not be afforded to all Americans equally.

Watch as we follow Dr. Dan and Karla trekking to the Middle East where taking care of patients in refugee camps in Lebanon serves to fulfill the mission of serving those less fortunate yet remains as a means to keep their clinics open in the United States. See the irony when conditions in these camps and devastated countries are still superior to those found within the “safety net” health care system in the disparate areas of Chicago…where healthcare is often likened to a third world country.

Most critically however, the team hopes to leave a footprint, so that together we can build a foundation for future generations as we change the world…OnePatient at a time.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

If you aren’t able to contribute financially, you can still help!

SHARE the project with your friends and family. SPREAD the word on social media sites.

WHERE THE $ IS GOING

We already have 25% of our filming done and now we need $100,000 enabling us to continue to edit the footage we have already shot, and to continue filming. Your money will go toward production, editing, and appeals for the additional funds to complete the project. We will keep you posted on our progress every step of the way, including field reports from Lebanon in late June when our film crew will travel to the Middle East to film Dr. Dan working with the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) to bring his medical expertise to the needs of the children living in refugee camps. Without these funds, we will NOT be able to make this trip happen!

WISH LIST: If we raise more than $100,000 we can make the film even better. More money means more time in the field and in the edit room, giving us greater production quality.

Sydal

Sydal

In a time and place where beef and turf politics surround rap music, Sydal has been labeled a breath of fresh air by fans and artists alike. This is because Sydal, who came into the game making dis records about anybody he wasn’t feeling, did a complete 180 and refuses to take part in a practice that has forever held his city down in the industry. “Rap music used to thrive on beef, but the tables have turned. Fans want to hear good MUSIC, positive solutions and be entertained…not caught up in an issue that doesn’t concern them”. Sydal lives in a city that has been going through a constant power struggle, where everybody wants to be labeled the “king” of the city, and collaborations are few and far between. This same problem keeps his hometown of San Jose out of the spotlight. .. ..Sydal started freestyling at the age of 11, and started writing and recording songs at the age of 14. From there, he would duplicate mixtapes in his bedroom and pass them out on a daily basis…to whoever would take one from him. It wasn’t until 2001, at the age of 19, that he financed and recorded his first LP, “Game Theory” and started getting his name out beyond his region. He caught the attention of many people throughout Northern California, and from there he grew his own fanbase from San Jose to Europe and Japan. After falling out with every artist he worked with, all he did was record dis record after dis record, and eventually decided to take a break from music altogether… ..Eventually, Sydal stepped back into the studio and decided to do everything himself. From writing, to beats, to full production (Pre-Mastering). By his side are cats like Young D, JC and Trenceda, whom he has been working closely with for quite some time now. Because of that, you can expect a few new albums very soon. This includes a Sydal solo, a Sydal & JC collaboration project, and some work from the StreetSav camp and Young D. Sydal has been from studio to studio, writing and recording non-stop for himself and for others. He is set to feature on numerous upcoming projects, and expand into other areas of entertainment as well… ..On top of all the recording, Sydal can be found performing in venues such as The Improv in San Jose, The Britannia Arms in Cupertino, and various other places. If you’d like to see him in your area, hit him up and it will happen. We’ll see what the world holds for this man, who is bent on creating good music for good people. “I don’t want to make records that will get me killed, I want to make records that will get me HEARD! I’m here to touch people, and to make real music with some real talented people”. I’m sure the world will be surprised when they hear what Sydal is bringing to the table. Sydal will be one of the best in the industry very soon…

MANNY SOUNDZ

E.D.Smooth

Ever so often, time repeats itself by giving us a singer reminiscent of the greats before. Hailing from Manchester, Jamaica, E.D.Smooth reignites the same kind of emotion one gets while listening to Sanchez, Beres or Luciano.

Starting to sing since the age of ten, he gained recognition and popularity early on throughout school and within the community.singing on force five band and sound system like Super Soul and Ray Phonic.and At community functions. At that age his talent led people to refer to him as “Little Song Bird” and that was the humble beginning of his musical career.

As one of twelve kids growing up in Jamaica, E.D. Smooth learned early on what it truly means to work for what you want in life. While doing his chores before and after school singing became his company. He says when he sings he would feel a soothing spirit come upon him. This is the same kind of feeling you get when you listen to his music.

He takes all of his experiences growing up, as well as what he sees and feels today and expresses himself through his music. When you hear him sing you will be able to hear and feel a high level passion, pain and love brought to a nice balance which we all experience as human beings on a day to day basis. Inspired by the Almighty. his mother and two kids he finds himself thinking of them while performing which brings him lots of joy.

Currently residing in Boston, he is beginning to gain recognition throughout Boston and New York City. Opening for acts such as Junior Reid,Junior Demus,Fantan Mojah and Vybz Cartel has been giving him the notoriety he deserves. He wants people to know through his music that despite your current situations you can and will achieve your hearts true desires, no matter what it is, just never give up.

As he continues to perform, he is constantly creating new material and thinking of ways to top what he did last. Currently ,working on his new album.he looking forward to spreading his message of love, unity and the spreading of good vibes. E.D. Smooth is undoubtedly on his way to the top of the charts. Look out for him as I am sure he will warm his way into your heart

He became very fascinated with music at a very young age. He loved the way instruments sounded as they were being played. The fascination soon grew stronger. He idolized and learned more about music by also watching videos and being influenced by so many other great artist and performers. Suddenly Proylfik decided that he was gonna give music a try because maybe it was his calling and ticket out. At first it was just a lot of clumsy rhyming words he came up with. That made no sense at all. Not even to him. But as time passed.Proylfik started too quickly progress. Becoming extremely more lyrical, beginning to write with better structure as well as meaning. Despite the many people in his life telling him “You Cant Do It” Or that his music is whack” or doesn’t sound good” ect etc.Proylfik kept his mind focused and stayed determined knowing that it will pay off.Not wanting too be just another mainstream come and go artists. Hailing from Philly, Chris Casso and Mike Thatcher met at a Vivid Video party in SoHo. Realizing they were from the same hometown, they found themselves ignoring all the Vivid Girls and debating things like “Beatles or Stones?” Deciding that they had a common vision for the future of rock music, they had no choice but to start a band! With Thatcher on guitar, and Casso on lead vocals, they recruited fellow Philadelphian’s Tom Walling on drums and Kjell Benner on bass and immediately began recording. Later joined on lead guitar by Dave Lenat, STD’s lineup was complete. After only a few months as a band, they were playing their first show together at House Of Blues opening for Clutch.
