Chicago Blues All-Stars

CBAS_16

CHICAGO BLUES ALL-STARS are a musical revue that features some of the most talented, entertaining and legendary artists on the scene today. Together they have created a singular sound that is uniquely eclectic, while drawing on all styles of Americana for inspiration. Members “KILLER” RAY ALLISON and DANIEL “CHICAGO SLIM” IVANKOVICH, whose musical stylings reflect their lifelong commitment as blues disciples, lead CBAS. Both “Killa” and “Slim” bring outrageous showmanship and musical talent on and off the stage.

JOHNNY COTTON’S ALL-STAR HORNS are masters of their craft as they bring the funk every night, and SCOTT “LI’L SCOTTY” DIRKS has a minimalist approach influenced by the pantheon of harp greats. JOHNNY B. GAYDEN holds down the bottom with a sound that’s larger than life, while drummer JERRY “BAM-BAM” PORTER locks in the beat with a precision only to be rivaled by ROOSEVELT “MAD HATTER” PURIFOY’s ability to fuse deep grooves with brilliant melodic ideas. Chicago Blues All-Stars round out their talented roster with the amazing vocals of their feature singers: DEITRA FARR, SHARON LEWIS, and PAT WINTERS.

The talent of these performers is only matched by those legendary artists that CBAS has shared the stage & recorded with domestically and internationally. Chicago Blues All-Stars have recorded with and worked along side legendary artists such as: Chuck Berry, Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, James Cotton, Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, John Lee Hooker, Howlin’ Wolf, Albert King, B.B. King, Magic Sam, Gary Moore, Ohio Players, A.C. Reed, Rolling Stones, Otis Rush, Sugar Blue, Koko Taylor, Big Mama Thornton, Stevie Ray & Jimmie Vaughan, Muddy Waters and Johnny Winter.

“KILLER” RAY ALLISON (GUITAR/VOCALS): First broke into music during the early 1970′s. Now a regular on the national touring circuit for over four decades, “Killer” Ray has been an integral tour-de-force in bands by James Cotton, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells and Muddy Waters. In 1998 and 2000, Ray was nominated for the W. C. Handy Award as an instrumentalist.

DANIEL “CHICAGO SLIM” IVANKOVICH (GUITAR/VOCALS): Is a studio veteran of imposing stature. He cut his teeth at the tender age of 18, as the musical director for legendary bluesman Otis Rush. Slim’s shared the stage with Rock’n Roll Hall-Of-Famers Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray & Jimmie Vaughan and Johnny Winter.

JOHNNY COTTON’S ALL-STAR HORNS: R&B veteran Johnny Cotton anchors this line-up, featuring some of the country’s hottest horn players. They’ve played with and arranged for a virtual Who’s Who of R&B/Soul. From legendary performers such as James Cotton, Junior Wells, Syl Johnson and Ohio Players, to modern rockers like Lenny Kravitz, Liquid Soul & Lubraphonic . . . All-Star Horns put the ‘unk in your funk.

SPECIAL GUESTS . . .

SCOTT DIRKS (HARMONICA/VOCALS): Award winning blues historian, instrumentalist & producer. “Li’l Scotty” authored “Blues With A Feeling-The Little Walter Story” and produced Lurrie Bell’s breakthrough “Mercurial Son” for Delmark Records. A walking compendium of blues history and lore, Dirks’ minimalist approach keeps alive the memory of Little Walter, Big Walter & Sonny Boy.

JOHNNY B. GAYDEN (BASS/VOCALS): Johnny B’s music career as a first-call studio bass player is one that most musicians can only dream about. He recorded nine CDs and numerous DVDs with Albert Collins. The band won a Grammy Award for the Alligator recording “SHOWDOWN” with Albert Collins, Johnny Copeland and Robert Cray. Johnny is a nine-time W.C. Handy Award nominee as an Instrumentalist.

JERRY PORTER (DRUMS): Throughout his lengthy career as a professional drummer, “Bam-Bam” has worked with a wide variety of top-tier artists, such as Eddie Clearwater, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells and Big Mama Thornton. Jerry’s versatility and professionalism have established him as one of todays most in-demand touring drummers.

ROOSEVELT PURIFOY JR. (KEYBOARDS/VOCALS): “Mad Hatter” has stunned and thrilled audiences with his amazing ability to fuse deep grooves with brilliant melodic ideas. Over the past two decades, he’s been producer, arranger and instrumentalist on over 200 album sessions for Alligator, Delmark, Point Blank and Rounder records. Hatter’s fusion of traditional blues, contemporary gospel and modern R&B creates a singular sound that’s like none other in the business.

FEATURING . . .

DEITRA FARR (VOCALS): Deitra Farr is considered one of today’s top vocalists, according to Living Blues Magazine (May 1997). Fiery, energetic, she has been nominated for Traditional Female Blues artist of the year by the W.C. Handy Awards, Female Blues Artist of the year by the Living Blues Critics Awards, the British Blues Connection Awards, and the Les Trophees France Blues awards. Deitra is contribution writer to Living Blues Magazine, with her “Artist to Artist” feature.

SHARON LEWIS (VOCALS): Sharon has played every major blues festival in the world. In addition to being a featured vocalist with CBAS, Sharon is a Delmark recording artist and regularly tours internationally with a Who’s Who of the blues.

PATRICIA WINTERS (VOCALS): An accomplished vocalist, Pat spent years performing as a featured singer with pianist JoJo Brown, and the late jazz great Oscar Brown Jr. She’s frequently performed in community stage productions and was cast in the starring role of Betty-Mae in the Off-Broadway production of “Sweet Pea’s, House of Prayer”.

Sharon Lewis – Blues Diva

Photo

Blues Diva Sharon Lewis first hit the stage on May 5, 1993 with a blues/rock band called Under The Gun. She and “Gun” premiered May 5, 1993 at Buddy Guy’s Legends to a throng of family and friends.

Sharon’s commitment to the blues has paid off handsomely, as she’s developed into one of Chicago’s hottest blues acts, and has twiced performed at the largest Blues Fest in the world – The Chicago Blues Festival.

These days, she frequents as a headliner at most all of Chicago’s major blues clubs, including Blue Chicago, B.L.U.E.S., Buddy Guy’s Legends, House of Blues, Kingston Mines & Rosa’s Lounge. Additionally, she’s also a featured attraction with Chicago Blues All-Stars, a band boasting a line-up that features a virtual who’s who of the blues in the Windy City.

Sharon & her band have performed with legendary blues artists as Koko Taylor, Son Seals, Denise LaSalle, Robben Ford, Coco Montoya, Billy Branch, Melvin Taylor, and Sugar Blue to name only a few.

Her first major international tour in 1998 fired up the Czech Republic, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Holland and Belgium with The Next Generation Band. During this tour she recorded with Carl Wyatt (Living In Exile: Singing The Blues) on Blue Road Records, Luxembourg.

After a year’s hiatus from performing, Ms. Lewis returned in 2001 to open with Billy Branch & The Sons of The Blues at Chicago’s Rooster Blues and immediately reclaimed her status as one of Chicago’s next generation blues vocalists.

In March 2001 (the “Best Tour”) Sharon returned to Europe for an extensive Czech Republic tour and again garnered raves as the “Vocalist of the Month” in Liberca, Czech Republic. Highly acclaimed reviews for this tour sparked a 2002 Tour (the “Very Best Tour”) with a revamped Next Generation Band – Jan Korinek and GROOVE. With GROOVE she toured extensively in the Czech Republic and Poland, opening for Robben Ford and enjoying equal billing status with Robben and Michael Urbniak (New York) at a two-day festival in the Czech Republic.

In September 2002 she received a Reader “Critic’s Choice” commendation. Ms. Lewis’ debut CD “Everything Is Gonna Be Alright” (with Under the Gun) was enthusiastically received upon its release this July.

Reverend Doctor D Blues Legend from Chicago

Reverend Doctor D

Photo

“The Right Reverend, Doctor D”, Chicago blues veteran with an imposing 7-foot frame. He’s destined to become a legend, if he isn’t one already.
Ivankovich understands what it’s like to be the underdog. Achieving All-State and All-American honors as a hoops baller and shot-caller, Ivankovich was one of the most highly recruited players in the States. With over 500 scholarship offers, he decided to play for Northwestern University while working towards his BSM/MD in the prestigious Honors Program In Medical Education. Then . . . disaster. A horrific knee injury ended his dreams of playing for the NBA and the Yugoslavian Olympic team.
With newfound time on his hands, he listened to his heart and turned to music for inspiration, transitioning from classical violinist to fire-breathing blues guitarist. Within months, he was playing on-stage with some of his musical heroes. Ivankovich went right to the source of the blues on Chicago’s South Side. He jammed, performed, and recorded with Chicago legends, Eddie Taylor, Homesick James, Snooky Pryor, Lefty Dizz, Johnny Dollar, Hubert Sumlin, James Cotton, Dion Payton, Magic Slim, Junior Wells, Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy. Including a stint as bandleader for legendary bluesman, Otis Rush.
At the Checkerboard Lounge on 43rd Street, he befriended and made a lifelong connection with players that he would eventually tap for the Chicago Blues All-Stars. Names like “Killer” Ray Allison, Jerry “Bam-Bam” Porter, Johnny B. Gayden and Roosevelt “Mad-Hatter” Purifoy. While a student at Northwestern, WNUR-FM, one of America’s premier non-commercial stations broadcasting from the University, took note. While trying to find the classroom for “Intro to Geography”, he took a wrong turn. It turned out to be all too right, bringing him to the door of the WNUR on-air studios. The music director lamented that the Blues Show needed a host or faced cancellation. Fate dropped that opportunity right in his lap.
The name, Daniel Ivankovich, didn’t have the right ring for Chicago blues, so he created the on-air personality, The Right Reverend, Doctor D. “Out Of The Blue” became the premiere Chicago blues program and was syndicated in over sixty markets. This led to on-air stints at commercial outlets WCKG-FM in Chicago and WQHT-FM in New York. He worked as producer and program developer for MJI Broadcasting in New York. He strides into hospital lobbies in a sweet black leather cowboy hat and goatee. He understands the pain his patients suffer, having personally undergone thirteen knee surgeries himself. Because of this, a unique ride was necessary for comfort as well as street credibility while navigating the rough & tumble streets of the ‘hood’.
Dan Ivankovich is a well-known public figure. In March 2010 he was featured on the American Spirit segment in Katie Couric’s CBS evening news in addition to numerous segments in both print and broadcast media. After the devastating earthquake in January 2010, he traveled to Haiti on his own expense to treat the countless victims pulled from the rubble, taking special interest in the spinal cord injured patients he found laying in makeshift tents. Through a series of miracles and moxie, he cut through mountains of red tape and personally escorted two such patients, Bazelais Suy and Josette Delisca, back to the States for top-notch care, a feat that was covered by newscasts all over the country and will soon be documented in an international story by the Associated Press.
Several documentaries are currently in the works chronicling his life story and humanitarian missions. With all of his variable expertise, there is a connecting thread. Whether squeezing a blue note out of his six-string, preaching on the day’s relevant social issues, or wielding a scalpel with skill and precision, the street rules his reality. Dan Ivankovich does it all with a street-savvy hipness and honesty, integrity that’s nearly extinct in today’s climate of inequitable health care policies, greed, corruption, and injustice.
He’s bluesman, healer, shaman & philosopher, and, as Bo Diddley said about Ivankovich’s blues alter ego, The Right Reverend, Doctor D, “one of the craziest %$#@! I’ve ever met. He ain’t from this planet.”

Inducted into The National Heritage Foundation BLUES HALL OF FAME as “Great Blues Musician” & named Blues Ambassador to San Francisco.

RALPH J. GLEASON said,”MONICA DUPONT sings like MUDDY WATERS & looks like MARY TYLER-MOORE”. BUDDY GUY compared her to JUNIOR WELLS.

She started recording in 1961 at age 13 & retired from music in 1983. Recent popularity of her old recordings convinced her to return with a new, All Star CD “Life Goes On” in 2008. SHE IS NOW 63 YEARS OLD.

Complete Bio inside

Monica Dupont

* M O N I C A * D U P O N T *

Legendary Blues singer/guitar player/songwriter, MONICA DUPONT is back after a 25 year absence from music,at the age of 61,with a CD of diverse and thoroughly modern Blues. Her exceptional, original songs showcase her powerful, unique vocal style & the production is brilliant.
☆ SHORT ADDITION after the fact ☆
Monica’s first Television appearance was on KQED San Francisco, at the age of 8. At the age of 11, she won a local talent contest and appeared on Lucille Lando’s Teen Time, on KSAY radio, where she performed and was interviewed. When she was 13, she recorded her first record, “Oh” and recorded periodically throughout her teens , plus appearing on Bill Gordon’s Luau & then on AM San Francisco-both on ABC TV Channel 7.
Then she started a full blown career ~ here’s some of the story………
☆ WHO/WHAT/WHERE ☆
From the day , at age 17, when she walked into the personnel office of I. Magnin’s, (to get a part time job) & was discovered by a scout from New York advertising giant, McCann Erickson & signed to do Buick ads, which appeared in all top national magazines, (Please look in her pictures for 1966 Buick Riviera magazine ad),Monica Dupont, has had an extraordinary career. Her Blues years alone, found her leading bands including, Bobby Forte’, Johnny Heartsman , Luther Tucker , Mel Brown
Tom McFarland, Troyce Key, JJ Malone, Mike Wilhelm, Johnny Nitro, California Slim, Jonny Seven & many others. The infamous Stench Brothers were her rhythm section for several years & then,Artie Wafer and Greg Williams. Her main drummer was Ron Wilson, of ” The Surfaris”, responsible for the world famous drum solo on, “Wipeout”. He was replaced by prolific Larry Vann. Monica’s first drummer was brilliant percussionist, Kenneth Nash. Her regular”fill in” bass players were, Rocco Prestia, from,”Tower of Power”, “Starchild”, from “Confunkshun” & Willie Riser.Tim Kaihatsu, guitar & Jerry Olsen, drums (Charlie Musselwhite’s band) played for her when Musselwhite wasn’t working. She opened for Jimmy Witherspoon in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Palace Hotel on New Year’s Eve 1977 as vocalist, frontman & guitar player for the California Slim Band.
☆ THE FILLMORE DAYS 1968-1971☆
Bill Graham “made” her a lifetime free pass to the Fillmore Auditorium on a small brown grocery store bag he wrote, in big letters with a green crayon, “LET HER IN !”. She got to meet & become friends with people like , Howlin’ Wolf & his whole band, which included Hubert Sumlin & Otis Fiske, Buddy Guy and his band too, which included close friends, A.C. Reed plus Jack Myers.Buddy Guy once paid her guitar payment and grateful, she lent him her Martin D-28, named Luigi, so he could play an acoustic set at the Fillmore Auditorium. Then Albert King, James Cotton, Booker T+the MGs,(she became instant friends with Duck Dunn),all the Paul Butterfield band -the list is amazing and endless,it stretches from J.B Hutto to Tim Buckley. She used to stay at Carlos Santana’s house, when he had just started,”The Santana Blues Band” & jammed with him & the others regularly . Her best friend dated Elvin Bishop & she spent many evenings as the third wheel, taking taxis between the Fillmore+The Avalon Ballroom with them. She even went to Hollywood as guest of the Electric Flag when they recorded “A Long Time Comin” & stayed with Peter Tork of “The Monkees”. While there she got to hang outwith L.A. music royalty like Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison & David Crosby. At the time, she was dating Taj Mahal. She was a musician, not a groupie & had very few romantic relationships.A few years later she became the girlfriend of Buddy Miles,(who she’d known since the Electric Flag days), during the time when he was in the Jimi Hendrix band+she got to spend time with Jimi. Her manager then was Ron Polte who she was referred to by James Cotton’s manager, Gordon Kinnearly. Ron Polte’s company was named “Westpol”.They also managed The Quicksilver Messenger Service & included, Julius Karpen, who managed Janis Joplin and George Hunter who represented “The Sons of Champlin” & “The Charlatans” (Dan Hicks & Mike Wilhelm).Nick Gravenites another old friend from the Electric Flag days was part of the Westpol agency & wanted to produce her . He had just produced “One Toke Over the Line”by Brewer & Shipley , but timing was wrong for both of them, she had other projects & he had a deadline. Bugsy Maugh, called her, “Sunshine”, Mike Bloomfield called her,”Brigitte Bardot Jr.” – and best of all, Eric Clapton called her , ” The Big German “.

Nobody could have been better connected than Monica & this list is only partial. Her favorite moments? All of them! BUT jamming for 4 hours with JB Hutto, having Howlin’ Wolf take care of her when she was sick & then Phillip Wilson,Butterfield’s drummer rushing her to a hospital+actually carrying her up the steps, when she had pneumonia+was really weak & having Charles Wright ask her to re-record “Loveland” for him, (Monica on vocal)certainly stand out in her memories, along with her very close friendships with late Mayor George Moscone, Joe Williams, Leonard Feather,Tina Mayfield(Percy’s widow)& her last manager Jimmy Tolbert, Lester Young’s nephew who paired her with people like Sweets Edison.
She was also managed by Bumps Blackwell, who managed Little Richard & started a project with his brother , Otis Blackwell who wrote classics,”Don’t Be Cruel”, “Great Balls of Fire” & a lot more top Rock & Roll hits. Pete Welding nabbed her for Playboy Records to pair with Philip Walker.
Monica knew Al Bell, she knew Norman Winter, she knew anybody & everybody that she needed to know to have a career, but nobody could figure out HOW to package and produce Monica, who is distinctive and stands out as being an instantly recognizable singer , who does not at all look like she sounds . Others who tried , included Michael Dilbeck of Columbia Records and Johnny Otis who, would always invite her to his recording sessions for Shugi (studio A at Columbia) & when she showed up,he would tell her that he wanted to record Linda Lu with her. An old friend from Warner Brothers tried to turn her into a female John Cougar Mellencamp . Tom Donohue asked her to record ” It’s a Man’s World ” & bill herself as “The female James Brown, “The Captain”(before Tennille) told her that she should to do songs like”Hard Hearted Hanna”, lying on a piano at , “The Troubador” in LA , while he backed her up & call herself, ” The new Mae West “.
☆ YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT ? ☆
Her first recording career began in 1961 and continued until 1982 . For years she recorded only songs provided by producers who only gave her just the current Folk Songs & Rock&Roll, trying desperately to match her voice to her looks . They repeatedly tried to make her sing soprano, too high for her baritone voice, but she strained & would do it.She recorded songs like ” Peanut Butter “,” Monday, Monday “,” 500 Miles “,”Pleasant Street”, “Blowing in the Wind”, ” Once I Was”,”The House of The Rising Sun”and dozens of forgettable current hits & standards, all cover tunes. Nobody would allow her do her original material , in the correct key for her real voice & she was miserable. Then, when she married Bard Dupont in 1971 (bass player for, The Great Society, Grace Slick’s first band) she continued to record & started her performing career with him at famous
San Francisco club, “The Coffee Gallery”. They first formed a duo called Mr. & Mrs.Dupont & then later, a band with young Johnny Nitro on guitar.
☆ RECORDING ☆
In 1975 she decided she’d had enough of the senseless recording & she went out on her own to record some memorable Blues singles, including her 1975 original recording of, ” Too Much Alcoho l” dedicated to her old friend , JB Hutto , going on to record ,” The Blues In The Night “, ” Meet me at the Deluxe Inn ” ,” The Lord is Recalling Sinners “,” When I Woke up I was Over You”, then her all time classic single,”Try To Find Another Man” & a handful of other Blues 45s.Her aptly named last recording was ” Checkin’ Out ” , done in 1982 , with the Seabury brothers, members of the band, “Psychotic Pineapple” . She’s also to be found on several Blues compilation records, such as JSPs 1984 LP, “Going to California”, along
with Roy Brown,Don & Dewey,Model T Slim,Cleo Paige&Sugarcane Harris.
☆ BLUES CLUBS ☆
She then retreated to playing Blues clubs only and while on the thriving Oakland/San Francisco Blues scene, ( from 1975-1983 ) she was a top act. She consistently played all the of Blues clubs & smokey after hours juke joints and progressed to appearing at the top venues in the area. Monica , is especially proud of the fact that she got the chance to play twice at the world famous, original , ” Hungry i ” while it was still in San Francisco’s North Beach and that besides being touted regularly by BAM Magazine, they picked her band as the only Blues Band to join the top rockers to play at the historical, 1977 “Rock Against Racism”. Her band at the time consisted of her husband Bard on bass, notorious, “Fast Floyd” from Mink Deville on guitar- Roger Thompson, drums & MASTER of the chromatic harmonica , Red Archibald , then known as “Marin Red”,(who sadly passed away a week before he was to record on this new CD),
☆ THE MEL BROWN BAND ☆
In 1980, Monica&Bard divorced , when she left to form a band with the great Mel Brown and also start her own group. She was playing 4 to 6 nights a week in those days, because besides being a member of both bands , she was hired , regularly as a guitar player by many top Blues musicians. She was also known for her excellent, original material, being performed by many local bands, like “Lamb” & Janis Joplin. Almost every group in the area in need of fresh material would go and see Monica .
☆ BYE BYE BLUES ☆
In 1982, she naively signed away the rights to all her songs & soon she had to quit playing music completely , when she suffered a stroke at the height of her career, in January of 1983. Her good friend,Troyce Key, also the owner of “Eli’s Mile High Club” refused to let her stop.He really believed in Monica & he helped her through almost 8 months of grueling physical therapy to help her prepare for what was her last performance,The 1983 San Francisco Blues Festival, featuring Blues royalty, Willie Dixon , Albert King, Ron Thompson, Irma & Rufus Thomas, Duke Robillard, Joe Liggins & more. She wasn’t able to play her trademark guitar, JB (named after close friend JB Hutto) due to the severe damage the stroke had done to her hands, but managed to sing 2 songs.
” It was a great way to retire ! ” , she’s quoted as saying.
☆ HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD ☆
Monica, then moved to Hollywood & went on to be a seasoned Television writer & show host. She wrote screenplays, sitcoms, a miniseries about Ann Boleyn, 2 Milo King mysteries, a novel,”Tomorrow is Christmas Eve” a book of art+Beat poetry,”Don’t let that Whiskey drink your Dog” & then “Windows”,which sold exclusively at prestigious places like, The L.A. Museum of Contemporary Art and San Francisco’s City Lights book store. She can also be seen as “the blond”, doing small walk-on parts in about a dozen major motion pictures, like “Naked Gun, Tequila Sunrise, Wired, Sunset Beat, LA Stories, Wedlock & appearances on prime time TV .
☆ THE MUSIC IS BACK ☆
In October of 1998 , she returned to the San Francisco Bay Area , to peacefully live with her cat and her memories, BUT This was not to be , as in 2004, some of her early recordings were reissued on a CD called “Early Eighties” (HoddymanRecords). Monica started getting great reviews, massive worldwide airplay and fan letters & gifts in the mail.Encouraged by all of this, she called old friends that she hadn’t seen or spoken to in 25 – 30 years & asked them if they would record a new album with her and every one of them agreed eagerly. All the talented players on her new CD, added  music out of love & respect for Monica & reviewers agree that some of them played better than ever before. The result is a beautiful and inspired musical gathering!
☆The new CD,  “LIFE GOES ON” ☆
Monica wrote 7 of the 10 songs on the CD . Each song was chosen to specifically showcase the diversity of her music and of Blues music in general . They’re each very different , but they all share the Blues root.Peel away layers of each tune, (except for “The Man from New Orleans”- stripped down to 2 guitars playing classic Delta Blues) the rest are very standard Blues with a lively embellishment and fresh original approach. This is really a most enjoyable and exciting Blues CD ! ” Life Goes On “is being critically acclaimed as Monica Dupont’s finest work to date and we sure hope it gets your feet tapping & puts a big smile on your face !

SID SINGS… make a big rock ‘n’ roll sound, mixing the best in blues, punk and classic British Beat. The band is headed-up by sassy, mysterious frontwoman, Sid and powered by Sandy Michie’s turbo-charged guitar-playing and Marco Quarantotto’s down and dirty drumming. A combination which has lead critics to describe them as ‘Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs backed by the early ZZ Top’, and ‘Patti Smith fronting The White Stripes.’

Their uber-charismatic live show simply blows audiences away. They opened at The HMV Forum in London for Mod legends Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler from The Jam and have also supported the likes of Eddie & The Hotrods , Nine Below Zero and Yat-Kha. They have headlined several prestigious London venues including The Blues Kitchen, The Barfly, The Borderline, 93 Feet East and The Garage. They have also enthralled audiences at festivals in the UK and Europe including Guilfest, Gold Coast Ocean Festival, Nozstock, Avant Garde Blues Festival in Italy, and Cognac Blues Passions Festival in France, where they were named band of the day and were hailed by the press as stars of the nu-blues.

After the band appeared on The Balling The Jack Show on Resonance FM Sid was offered her own show which is called House Rent Boogie and airs every Tuesday at 3pm.

Their first album, Notes From The Underground was released last year to critical acclaim. The song, Killer Love from that collection is the main theme song of the soon to be released film, Jane Doe. They are currently working on a follow-up which promises to burn with the classic intensity which has become their trademark.

As the song says, Sid Sings are gonna shake it tonight…

Dr. Dan Ivankovich aka The Right Reverend, Doctor D

Dan Ivankovich is unique. Born in Croatia, a Chicago resident since the age of three, this fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma surgeon and spine specialist has an alter ego, “The Right Reverend, Doctor D”, Chicago blues veteran with an imposing 7-foot frame. He’s destined to become a legend, if he isn’t one already.

Ivankovich understands what it’s like to be the underdog. Taunted by his third grade classmates for his unpronounceable last name and violin, he was head and shoulders above them all in more ways than one.

Due to his academic prowess, he skipped several grades, but his parents, (Anthony and Olga), both physicians, kept young Daniel’s school progress under close watch and prevented him from being a high-school graduate at the tender age of fourteen. They knew he needed time to mature, to catch up with his imposing physical stature.

With success, came offers to don a “suit” and become an executive. Not for him. Ivankovich stayed true to his rebel heart. Those corporate offers weren’t tempting, but were exactly the wake-up call he needed. It was time to get back to basics, back to fulfill his mission as a healer . . . and to the source of his inspiration and strength in Chicago’s inner-city neighborhoods.

While an intern and resident, putting in 120+ hour weeks at Cook County Hospital, Ivankovich had the chance to change the status quo, work with the poor on the front-lines and see how healthcare, insurance companies and the government short-changed them. Where was the justification for five-year waiting lists for simple procedures that would improve functionality to allow a person live life to the fullest? Ivankovich started the Chicago Musculoskeletal Initiative (ChiMSI) . . . to make health care for the poor a basic human right.

He attended top post-grad fellowships, programs at RUSH (Adult Joint Reconstruction), Northwestern (Adult Spine Trauma) & Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (Spinal Cord Injury). Ivankovich established orthopedic outreach and patient education programs at virtually all of Chicago’s safety-net hospitals. He raised almost $1,000,000 in committed grants and services to grow clinics and provide staffing.
Dan Ivankovich could be clearing a cushy salary treating sports injuries and backaches.  He could have a stream of well-to-do patients in a plush suburban office during the week and kick back on Sundays. Instead, he chooses to hustle at the inner city and underserved hospitals. He’s seen over a hundred thousand patients, performed over a five thousand surgeries in communities that never had this type of service . . . ever: pediatrics, trauma, joint reconstruction and spine surgery.  He treats the needy, provides specialty care for degenerated joints, broken bones, gunshot wounds, for victims and victimizers alike, the underserved of the ghetto.

During his residency, he drove a 1968 Pontiac Bonneville military ambulance, but he’s upgraded to a fine set of wheels as his daily ride, a souped-up 2008 black Jeep Cherokee SRT with 22” rims. Then there’s the “Bone Mobile”, a righteous jet-black 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT street-rod with 550 horsepower, the envy of every adult male on the South & West sides. With extra legroom, Lamborghini & suicide doors, 24” DUB rims, under-car neon lights and a 2000-watt amplifier with plasma displays, it’s the BOMB ! !

Shortly after his return from Haiti, Dan was honored by the National Social Workers Association as the 2010 Public Citizen of the Year.  He was invited to give the commencement speech at his alma mater, Glenbrook South High School, where he spoke about the value of bucking the status quo, thinking for oneself, and paying forward one’s good fortune. He was also voted 2010 Alumnus of the Year by his Fraternity, Beta Theta Pi, Rho Chapter, at Northwestern University.

Several documentaries are currently in the works chronicling his life story and humanitarian missions.  He is co-writing an inspiring memoir, along with his newfound Haitian brother, Bazelais Suy, recounting the events before, during, and after the catastrophic quake.  Perhaps most entertaining of all, stay tuned for the graphic novel, The Rev. Doctor D and his sharp-tongued sidekick, Harmonia. This will be the perfect medium for Dan Ivankovich to act out his darkest dreams in the guise of the Byronic antihero that dwells in his soul.
