Welcome to the January-February issue of Shine On Hollywood Magazine (SOHM)! As a new year comes to fruition, we here at Shine On Hollywood Magazine are excited about 2015. With the Golden Globes, Grammy and The Writer Guild Awards already behind us and The Oscars Awards just around the corner, there is more great work coming out of Hollywood and around the globe than ever before.
The level of quality work in all aspects of entertainment, film, TV, video, music, dance, art and fashion has all been raised over the last year. The business side of things is rapidly changing with the availability of on-demand shows and events available to anyone with an internet connection in most of the world. The Hollywood experience used to be available only to those who could get to a theater, go to a concert or buy a record. Those days are over and the volume of entertainment has made creating and mounting productions very competitive these days. We, as the consumers of these productions, are the winners as we get to enjoy more and better events and shows.
This month, we focus our attention on the world of dance. Sometimes, when watching a show or concert, we don’t always realize how hard the dancers are working to bring us a great show. They often don’t get the recognition that is so well deserved. This is our chance to recognize just a few of the successful dancers and choreographers working in entertainment today. Their stories will amaze and inspire you.
Our cover story features Allen Walls. Dancing since the 80’s, Walls took a very unconventional path to be the success he is today. He also understands how dancers are not recognized in the business and has done his part to create an event to do just that with the World Dance Awards. See how he started and made his way onto the big screen as well as into your homes on TV.
We also are highlighting a Russian import, Ekaterina Fedosova. This diminutive person should not be dismissed because of her size. She is a powerhouse on the dance floor and has proved it again and again through competitions through the dancing world around the globe. With a dream in her heart, read how she made her way to the U. S. and ultimately, to Hollywood where she is making a name for herself.
A dancer and now, choreographer, who is very busy is Melena Rounis. Starting out in the classics of ballet and jazz, Rounis is one to be reckoned with in the hip-hop world. She works constantly and it was not easy to pin her down for an interview, but we did and her story is inspiring.
Finally, we follow the career and life of dancer, choreographer and director, Cheryl Baxter-Ratliff. With a dance teacher mom, she was destined to be very successful in entertainment, as she is. Working alongside some of the greatest performers of our time, Cheryl has a resume most dancers would give their favorite dancing shoes for. Read about how she transitioned from a well-rounded dancer knowing just about all the different styles to include singing on her resume and even performing for the President.
We encourage you to “Let them be your motivation.”
